I’ve always been interested in real estate as a wealth building strategy. I originally got into the industry when I got an opportunity to start an IDX tech company. IDX is the technology that allows us to bring databases like the MLS to websites. Remember life before Zillow? Yep, there was a time when phone book sized listings catalogs were your only access to listings. What a difference 20 years makes.
Innovation is something that is just super fascinating to me. We rode the IDX wave for about five years before the Great Recession took us down. It was a hard crash and I was so over the whole real estate thing, I let my broker license lapse.
And I was mom to a very high spirited little girl through these years, too.
In 2013, my former IDX partner convinced me we should get into real estate sales to understand the industry as agents, and to look for the next big thing. As it turned out, I kind of dig sales and I find that my first career as a consumer fraud attorney really brings a lot of practices into focus for me in real estate that I don’t like for consumers.
As a sales professional/broker, I get to combine my interest in real estate, with my negotiation skills and my drive regarding consumer fraud issues in one place. That’s why you’ll see me write and speak out a lot against dual agency and other topics to shine lights on things consumers aren’t usually told about. This skill set is also a huge driver for my latest project, a youtube channel called Tracy Talks Real, where I call out real estate industry practices I don’t think serve consumers’ highest interests.
About me personally – I’m always learning and always tinkering with mousetraps, especially when they have to do with business processes. Shiny objects are my kryptonite. About that accidental gardener! It’s common to find me hanging out at Emerson Avenue Community Garden. I’m a past president and big booster of the Garden. Come by and say hi! If I’m not working in my plot, everybody in the Garden is super welcoming and will want to show your our beautiful space. We’ve all worked very hard to make the space welcoming for the entire community.
